Didn’t have the best softball outing last night. From the get-go, I could kind of tell it wouldn’t be our night, because the team was two short of the minimum needed to play. Facing forfeiture, we managed to recruit two players from a game that had just ended. Still, we were disorganized as the game started, and I had barely figured out where I was in the batting order when suddenly I found myself walking up to the plate.

On the night I had no hits, but my first at bat was by far my worst: a strike out that included two foul balls off my left ankle. (My last at bat was my best: I didn’t get a hit, but at least I got it out of the infield.)

I started out the bottom half of the first in left field, where I proceeded to make an error on the first hit to me and misplayed another ball. I did have a good catch, and to be honest other players on our team weren’t doing so hot either, but I felt like quite the loser.

One of our last-minute recruits decided he really didn’t want to play infield, so after the first inning I ended up at third base. That did not go well. The previous game I had tried second, and decided the infield was not for me. It was especially not for me last night, however, as the team we were facing kept hitting lasers at the infielders. I managed to let a few get by me that weren’t really errors, but what really got to me were the balls that would hit my glove–or me (on that same ankle!)–but that I couldn’t quite get a handle on. True, I kept the ball from getting out of the infield, but I only made two outs at third base, and both of those were short throws to second. (Admittedly, I made some good throws after my errors in the outfield and to second, but good fielding would have been nice.)

So anyway, my ankle was all bruised and cut-up when I went to play tennis this morning. That started out very poorly, as I lose three games in a row and lost the first set 6 to 2. Fortunately I recovered a bit in the second set, winning 6-3, but I was up 5-1 at one point, and despite the victory I had a very poor serve the whole morning.

I did, however, make some tasty pancakes this morning.

Oh, yeah, and we won, too.

Hopefully I can keep it up tomorrow night for the men’s game. Unfortunately, the men haven’t had as much success as the co-rec team. One of the latter team’s strengths is our women, a fact on display tonight with a number of big hits from our women, including a triple.
