At the archives

Now you can pretend to spy on me while I’m working in the archives!

Week four

Wow, that’s a month gone by real fast. Almost too fast, maybe, since I don’t feel like I have that much research done. Oh well, after tomorrow it should be back to business without interruption for a while.

The interruption Friday and Saturday was a scholarship holders’ orientation in Bonn that was rather uninformative but ended up being a pretty good time anyway. Highlight: dinner at a Chinese restaurant that took us cruising up and done the river while we ate.

My last major interruption for a while comes tomorrow morning as I go take care of my residence permit. I think I have all the documents I need, but we’ll see what happens.

Then it’s back to work. Only other plans for the week besides work are researching travel plans for Deb’s visit in December and finding return tickets for nine months from now.

Week three

No video this week. I know, it’s terrible news, right? Anyway, this week I didn’t get nearly as much work done in the archives as I would have liked because I had to stay home two days, Monday and Friday. Monday somebody was supposed to come do make some final adjustments for my internet connection, but never did. Wednesday nobody was supposed to come, so I went to the archives, but while I was gone they left a note saying they showed up but nobody was home. Finally, for Friday I scheduled another appointment, somebody showed, told me that whoever was supposed to show up Monday but didn’t told the office he did show up, and also made sure everything was set.

Yesterday I headed to Magdeburg to visit Niko, and had a nice visit. While there, I purchased a jacket, since I didn’t have anything that would keep me warm or dry as the weather continues to deteriorate here. After getting back to Berlin today I went for a short run. Unfortunately, my not-yet-broken-in running shoes keep bothering the backs of my heels, leading to a bloody sock when I got home despite the band-aid I put on before heading out. But it looked worse than it was, there was just a tiny patch of skin rubbed off.

So tomorrow it’s back to work, but this week won’t be very productive either: Wednesday is a holiday, and Friday I head to Bonn for a DAAD orientation. Oh well.

Week Two

Another video installment!

In other news, to keep up with what I’m doing throughout the day you can check my twitter page. Also, you might be interested in the photos I’m (infrequently) taking.

Week one

So, my first week in Berlin is almost over. A brief rundown:

  • long layover in expensive London
  • late (thought on time) arrival in Berlin
  • Monday spent registering my address, opening a bank account, etc.
  • Tuesday spent finishing up remaining errands, finding the archives, etc.
  • Wednesday spent in bed, sick since the night before
  • Thursday at the archives, figuring out how everything works
  • Friday spent at the archives, still figuring out how everything works and getting my hands on my first (relatively boring) documents
  • Saturday shopping a bit–got some socks plus found some ramen noodles and pancake mix!

London, here I come

So, I’m off to London for a few days. Hopefully I’ll have some decent pictures to post when I get back.
