I found a site with several pictures from Germany in 1929, and one caught my eye, a photo taken in Rothenburg ob der Tauber:

Compare with this photo I took in 2004:

They look pretty similar at first glance, but if you look closely, you’ll notice that by 2004 the buildings have been renovated to make them look “more authentic” than they originally did. Notice the additional half-timber framing? The background added around the words “Marien-Apotheke”?

I had a pretty good game today. No mistakes, did a decent job when I was acting as third base coach, and to top it all off I had a two hit inning with two RBI.
Oh, yeah, and we won, too.
Hopefully I can keep it up tomorrow night for the men’s game. Unfortunately, the men haven’t had as much success as the co-rec team. One of the latter team’s strengths is our women, a fact on display tonight with a number of big hits from our women, including a triple.

This, despite the fact that Americans are healthier. I will say that during my time in Mombasa people just seemed happier, even if they didn’t have as many things or opportunities. What they did have, they valued.
