Stereotypes

I’m not saying all Germans fit the stereotype of the pedantic record keeper, but…

Today I had to go in for a physical in order to get insurance from the German government while I’m doing research. The nurse was shocked at the level of detail they wanted. Besides the basics–height (185cm, AKA 6′1″) and weight (71.7 kg, or 158lbs)–and my medical history they wanted my blood pressure while lying down and standing up (108/58 and 100/66, respectively) as well as my resting pulse (56bpm), pulse after 10 knee-bends (84bpm), and pulse two minutes after that (64bpm). According to the nurse, it was worse than the form she’d seen for the Russian government.

Near the end of the exam, however, she came back. Apparently, in the next room was an even more in-depth form: one from the US military.
