Every stop is neatly planned

Two days (including five hours in Connecticut) to get to Rhode Island for a wedding that was great fun (though the reception was short by Wisconsin standards). Then a day in Boston (including a tour of Fenway), and two evenings spent hanging out with family. Now two more days on the road again.

More substantive content once we’re home.

Quick & Dirty SMTP Plugin

This is a quick plugin I whipped up while working on another project. Basically, it takes advantage of the fact that WordPress now (as of 2.2) includes PHPMailer to allow you to make WordPress use SMTP.

Requires WordPress 2.2+. To use, download, change extension to “.php”, upload to plugins folder, activate, and configure.

To do: fix any bugs.

Stats

With a couple of games under my belt now, I can now (not-so) proudly present a few statistics: Continue reading ‘Stats’

Ninjitsu of the mundane

I’d tell you tonight was spent playing bocci ball and video games, but this isn’t Twitter. Burn.

We’re horribly mundane, aggressively mundane individuals. We’re the ninjas of the mundane, you might say.

Aaron’s line about Twitter didn’t just get me chuckling, it got me thinking. Continue reading ‘Ninjitsu of the mundane’

Cat chases bear up tree

Our cat wouldn’t need to chase a bear up a tree; one look at Feeny and the bear would know to run and hope that Feeny wasn’t in a chasing mood. (Via digg)

Proving foresight may be vain

It was a great plan: bring the hyperactive beagle along for a five mile run. Both Deb and I figured that would tire her out. Instead, we got home and she immediately started doing laps at full speed around the living room, sister in tow.

Maybe 10 miles will work better.

Turn and face the strain

Today’s the last Friday of the semester, the last day of finals week. As a grad student, finals week isn’t about taking finals, but rather grading them. That’s a process I’m almost done with. Continue reading ‘Turn and face the strain’

A Challenge

A challenge has been issued. The gauntlet has been thrown down. A… um… I’m out.

Reboot

Well, I’ve rebooted the blog again, more for server-side reasons than anything. I haven’t bothered to import any of my old posts, as there weren’t that many of them and those who might be interested in reading them probably already have. I’m going to try to make posting things here a part of my routine, in the hopes that I’ll continue it come fall when I’m in Germany. My track record doesn’t make that seem too promising, but as they say, past performance is no guarantee of future results. Maybe that can work to my benefit in this case.
